Description
JR EF80 Electric Locomotive
The EF80 is an AC/DC electric locomotive that appeared on the Joban Line from 1962 to 1967. It uses a one motor per bogie system to deal with the weight increase unique to AC/DC locomotives. Of the 1st generation, the prototypes, No. 1 to No. 30, were used for both passenger and freight, and were equipped with an EG (electric heating generator) and pulled the 20 series and 24 series sleeper express trains "Yuzuru".
