The Setra S 8 was presented to the public at the IAA in Frankfurt am Main in April 1951. The type designation referred to the eight rows of seats in this bus. The Setra S 8 represented the start of a new bus brand. As is typical for this time, the Setra S 8 was built on a truck chassis. The unmistakable trademark of the bus was the distinctive radiator grille, which protruded a little towards the front.
