Formed in 1941, the 8th Army was a field army formation of the British Army during the Second World War, fighting in the North African & Italian Campaigns. Units came from Australia, British India, Canada, Free French Forces, Greece, New Zealand, Poland, Rhodesia, South Africa & the UK.
The 8th Army famously took part in the Second Battle of El Alamein in 1942 which helped to stop any further Axis advances into Egypt & turned the tide against the Axis forces who began to be pushed out of North Africa after the battle ended.
Commonly known as the "Desert Rats", these 8th Army figures are wearing clothing as worn in the North African campaigns when fighting both the Italian forces and later the German Afrika Korps.
