Build a Christmas Market Diorama

JULIE and KEVIN PLAYER show us how they built a Christmas Market diorama on a biscuit tin.

Crowds flock to the market.

With Christmas not too far away, we thought we would create a Christmas Market Scene using a tin of biscuits we received last year, which originally had polar bears on top as decoration.

Business is brisk at the drinks' stalls.

Christmas trees for sale.

First, we carefully removed the plastic dome, and the polar bears were removed. A base using styrene foam was cut to size. This was then given a base coat of Field and Nature Terrain Paste from Noch (N60823). The Christmas Market Kit from Busch (BU1059) was purchased and built.

Extra details have been added round the back of the stalls.

The booths were then positioned, fixed to the base with Deluxe Materials Tacky Glue (DLAD-86). The Noch Snowflake Starter Set (N07065) was purchased. The supplied adhesive was then brushed onto the desired areas and snow was then applied with the puffer bottle. When the glue was dry, suitable assorted figures from the Noch and Preiser ranges were then fixed in position, again using the Tacky Glue.

Top-down view, showing the layout of the buildings and figures. Snow has been applied to areas in different thicknesses to show where people have been walking.

The completed diorama with the dome replaced.

On completion, a few dabs of Tacky Glue were applied to the Plastic dome and repositioned on top of the Biscuit tin.

Happy Modelling!
