Traditionally the new year brings new announcements, and this year is no different. Corgi have decided to follow suit with other model vehicle manufacturers, and start announcing their items throughout the year, rather than just at the start. This has its advantages as new developments can be added seamlessly into the new releases later in the year and not have to wait until the following year or slip out under the radar. The first announcements are for the first third of the year; January to April. This also comes with the promise that the vehicles will be arriving within this time period too, but as with anything, delays can happen, so it is possible this may change.

So where do we begin? The first thing to remember is that this is only for the first third of the year, so there are fewer items announced so far than in previous years. This release schedule presents us with four new items, all very different from each other. The first one is part of the Vanguard 1:43 collection; CIVA14502 VW Campervan T1 in Palm and Sand green. Although this doesn't seem too exciting, this does again give us a model of a VW Camper Van as they would have been seen. In recent years Corgi have only produced this model with promotional or bright graphics in celebration of an event, so it is a welcome return to the more mundane colour scheme seen here.

Also joining the Vanguard range is Ford Granada Mk2 in Cardinal Red, and Ford Escort Mk3 in Sunburst Red. There isn’t much to say on these, other than they appear to be nice models of vehicles that should enhance any collection. The CIVA11014 was previously announced, but has yet to be released.

Next we jump onto something a little different; A Triumph Scrambler 1200; CICC08401. This model is being released as part of the James Bond series of vehicles, and takes the shape of a 1:12 scale model of the bike, as seen in the film ‘No Time To Die’. Unlike the previous ‘Bonds’ you can’t really say Daniel Craig’s incarnation has owned many of the cars he has driven, as (spoiler alert) many of them he actually stole, this was the first motorbike that Craig’s Bond had ridden, and is the first to be immortalized in this range. The model is supplied with a stand to aid display, and features all the details as seen in the film.

Following on from Mr Bond, we are coming back to the real world and sliding down the west coast from Skyfall to Blackpool with our next release. During the hay-day of holiday parks, one of the big names was Pontins. This company had holiday parks up and down the country, and until 2 October 2009 had one in Blackpool too. CIOM46317 is the next release in The Original Omnibus Company range and is a model of RM 848.This vehicle was part of the London transport fleet until it was sold to Blackpool Transport in 1986. In 1991 it began its two year service with the Pontins all over branding we see applied to this model. This is perfect for anyone who is a collector of Blackpool based vehicles, as in this scheme it ran along the Golden Mile, directly to the holiday camp.

The second bus to be added to the range with this release is CIOM46318. This is a model of the AEC Routemaster. This is a special model as it represents the 1000th Routemaster to be built. The prototype was delivered to London Transport in 1961, and was then used for exhibition use primarily and was only used for minimal service. The bus was passed to the RM1000 Preservation group in 1987 for preservation.

The final road vehicle being announced this year is the impressive 1:50 scale Classic Coca-Cola truck. Many of us will have seen one of the Coca-Cola trucks on TV over the Christmas period, but they are on the road all year round, albeit with a non-Christmas paint job. CICC12841 sees the iconic livery marry with the renowned Triumph to result in this impressive model that is over a foot long. This is a model that would be home in any collection built around the Coca-Cola brand, or as something eye-catching to bring a bit more colour to your heavy haulers collection.

Sadly that brings us to the end of the announcements for this part of the year. For those of you familiar with the Corgi range, you will be aware that they do also produce aircraft. If this is something you are interested in, then our sister publication Flight Lines brings you all the information from the world of aviation model collecting.
