Creating realistic grass can be the make or break of a diorama and one of the most challenging to do well.

Scatter Grip 01.

Fortunately there are many types of grass dispensers and specialist glues like Deluxe Materials DLAD-25 Scatter Grip to make a first class job of the grass and products like DLBD-60 Create & Shape to give contours to the diorama.

Scatter Grip 02.

Here you see the scene at its painting stage.

Scatter Grip 03.

Having painted the ground, paint Scatter Grip on where you want to apply the grass. If it’s different grasses you want just apply it stage by stage as we do here.

Scatter Grip is unique in that it dries and stays sticky so you have plenty of time to work on the scene and a better choice than PVA glue.

Tip: always wash brushes with water before the Scatter Grip glue dries. If you are unlucky with dried Scatter Grip then DLAC-19 Brush Magic will quickly restore the brush.

Scatter Grip 05.

Set up the electrostatic grass gun (e.g. Noch Gras-Master 2.0 Static Grass Applicator) and stick the pin into the base. Scatter Grip is designed to promote the static effect.

Apply grass onto dried but sticky surface.

Scatter Grip 06.

Some great effects are possible as you can see in this close up of N08151 2.5mm Summer Meadow Scatter Grass.

Scatter Grip 07.

The Gaugemaster Puffer Bottle was used for the next stage. Scatter Grip glue has been applied again to the ground area in preparation.

Scatter Grip 08.

Here you can see the grass falling down, if you look closely

Having brushed Scatter Grip behind the fence...

Scatter Grip 10.

...it was easy to simply place some Green Grass Tufts leaving the area around ready for tall 6mm Green Wild Grass.

Scatter Grip 11.

Again there was no rush to do this before the glue dried as Scatter Grip firmly held the tufts in place.

Scatter Grip 12.

For the final application of grass we again used the Gaugemaster Puffer Bottle. The video below shows the 6mm grass being applied to the Scatter Grip.

  • Can be applied with a brush
  • Allows plenty of working time
  • Scatter Grip dries and stays tacky overnight
  • Works with all types of conventional and electrostatic grass applicators

So, why not make Scatter Grip the glue of your choice for your next static grass scene?
