Well, after another year of uncertainty it’s that time again when we glance through what Hornby International have lined up for this year. This will be just an overview, as each range is growing year on year. All can be found either on our website or those of you that prefer a catalogue currently available under part number HP2022.

Arnold N Scale

HIN2485. Initially known as 42 series KDL3, this N Scale heavy freight train tender locomotive is made almost entirely of die-cast metal. The motor is in the boiler which makes it nice and quiet, powerful and has a brass flywheel fitted. Those of you that want DCC sound there is space for a decoder and loudspeaker in the tender.

Nearly all were to be found in Germany, but they were also located in Austria and could be seen in action hauling long coal trains and other types of heavy freight.

After the Second World War, around 1,000 machines were scattered all over Europe and on the ÖBB, the last BR42s weren’t withdrawn from service until 1968. The end came a little earlier for those still operating in Germany.

HIN2481. A new tooling of a class 141R steam loco in the livery of SNCF ‘Mistral’ a model based on the French train that operated between Paris and Nice from 1950 onwards. The name Mistral came from the wind that blows from north to south of France.

HIN2540. Scale model of a Series 592 Diesel Railcar decorated in the Spanish RENFE livery. This unit features a coreless motor with fitted flywheel and directional lighting and would be ideal operating on your secondary passenger services. A DCC Sound Fitted version has been available and this one is DCC ready.

HIN2547. SNCF CC14004 electric locomotive. At the time of the electrification of the Valenciennes-Thionville line, the single-phase current of 25 kV was introduced. Since no final decisions were made in 1952, the SNCF decided to experiment with different engine solutions by producing 4 different series of locomotives (BB 12000, BB 13000, CC 14000 and DC 14100). The shape of all these locomotives with the two pantographs mounted above the driver's cab in the middle, the conical stems and the unusual blue paintwork of the locomotives gave all these locomotives, which were nicknamed 'Iron'.

HIN6600. Three Bogie tankers decorated in a rather elaborate graffiti livery featuring a lion, dolphin and a gorilla printed on the side.

Arnold TT Scale

More known for pioneering N Scale, Arnold also do a limited range of TT Scale locos and rolling stock which is pitched between N and HO.

HIN9061. Scale model of a Class 58.10-40 loco in DB livery, fitted with a skew wound motor and is DCC ready.

HIN9741. A scale model of a twin pack wagon set decorated in the colourful Wernesgruner livery as ran on the DR in the early 1970s.

Jouef HO Scale

HJ2416. A model of 140C type Steam Locomotive decorated in SNCF livery is new to the range this year, along with other variants.

HJ2428. An electric locomotive of the SNCF in the livery of the famous TEE 'Mistral'. Also available this year will be the coaches to run with it, so an accurate representation of the train can be made.

HJ2605. This SNCF Class CC72030 is in a rather vivid ‘Tricolore’ Livery of red, white and blue, for those of you prefer your locomotives in a different colour scheme from the norm.

HJ4162/3/72. If you want to travel further back in time then the sets of CIWL coaches show off the elegance of a bygone age.

Electrotren HO Scale

HE2005/6 HE2007. Electric locomotive class 279 of the Spanish Railways RENFE, in three different liveries including the ’Milrayas’ version.

HE2008/9. Having an interest in track maintenance stock, the diesel maintenance vehicle in yellow or light blue and grey caught my eye. These would be ideal for your maintenance depots.

HE6040. These useful car transporters are fitted with side protection screens and they are decorated in the Transfesa/Hispanauto blue livery.

HE2500 is a single car diesel unit of the series 596, ideal for secondary branch lines etc and available in different Renfe Liveries.

Rivarossi HO Sacle

HR2897/8/9 and HR2900. New in this year’s new release programme is a model of the EffiShunter 1000 which will be in Mercitalia Rail livery as well as Rail Traction and CD Cargo.

HR2861. Those of you that collect Coca Cola themed rolling stock will have to add the Duewag GT6 (which sounds more like a sports car than a tram) to your collection.

HR6561. Set of three refrigerated box cars of a HGB White UK Gauge Refrigerated Wagon Set decorated in Era III FS livery.

HR2884. The legendary Union Pacific Big Boy makes a welcome return this time with a new tender, modified firebox and extra detail as per the prototype. This item was extremely popular last time and sold out very quickly.

Lima
