I have recently been building a small (12ft x 1ft) O Scale layout and have got to the stage of needing some paving in the goods depot area.

After looking into the options, I plumped for giving some Noch products a go. Admittedly they are designed for OO/HO but the two types I used were perfectly good a representing paving/road in O Scale.

The N60325 Town Square paving comes in a flexible sheet or strip, depending on its intended use as road or a paved area. It comes rolled up in the packet but is easily unrolled and becomes flat in just a few minutes.

Once the area to cover has been decided, the paving is easily cut and trimmed with a sharp knife. I needed to have the paving going up a rise to get the correct height against the loading dock, as you can see in the first picture above, the paving is happy forming itself to whatever is underneath and using some super glue (Deluxe DLAD-44 Roket Cyano Rapid) it is easy to quickly form it to the shape needed.

The other paving used was N60326 Village Square. This is a random cobble style of paving and is good for the more rough and ready areas of paving. As shown in the picture this piece of road needed more shaping to fit the area, the curves are easily cut with a good pair of scissors and once trimmed the sheet was fixed down using PVA (Deluxe DLAD-10 Speed Bond). The reason for using PVA on this section was that it allows for easier positioning before the glue sets.

One very nice advantage of this paving from Noch is the quality of the embossing, it is sufficiently embossed for weathering to be accomplished easily with some thinned down acrylic paint. Using black, brown, or grey the paving receives the paint well and is easily built up for very mucky areas.

In another RIGHT LINES article I shall write about how I made the "Goods Yard Platform".
