As per my last RIGHT LINES article about Train-Tech's new Automated Sensor Signals, these new and simple items have been developed by Train-Tech with every modeller in mind. In this article I’m going to look at two of their other products due for release in 2017.

N and OO Scale Level Crossing Lights

TTLC10.

First of all, I’m looking at the new Level Crossing Lights.

These preassembled UK Style level crossing lights are available in both N and OO Scale. As well as the correctly sequenced lights, the units have also been fitted with a sound unit to add greater realism on your railway layout. They come complete with Peco static level crossing barriers and fencing (maybe try and motorise the barriers in a similar manner to James with this Fordhampton Level Crossing? - Ed).

The lights are extremely easy to fit, just drill a 10mm diameter hole into your baseboard and tighten up the special mounting cap for the light to be held securely in place. They have been designed to be easy to wire, all you need to do is attach two wires to the circuit board and supply it with a 9 - 16v DC power feed or taken from your DCC track power. We recommend using a GMC-WM4 Wall Mounted Transformer to power these lights on a DC model railway.

The light and sound can be controlled in a variety of different ways by the user:

  • Connect a switch within the power supply.
  • Control them automatically by a TTST10 Track Sensor or manually by a Mimic Switch via Layout Link (Which should be the subject of a future article - Ed).
  • Control them via your DCC controller using an accessory decoder.

They can even be powered by a 9v battery should you wish!

N and OO Scale Traffic Lights

TTTL10.

Now let’s look at the traffic lights:

Like the Level Crossing Lights these are completely assembled, all you need to do is install them into a pre-drilled hole in your baseboard and wire them up to the power supply. You will need either a 9 - 16v DC power supply or a feed from your DCC track. We recommend using a GMC-WM4 Wall Mounted Transformer to power these lights on a DC model railway.

The lighting sequence is exactly the same as on British roads (consult your copy of the Highway Code for more details! - Ed). There are no set timings, the lights operate randomly. This set is a quick and easy way to add realism to your layout in seconds. They come unpainted, but a quick outline with white paint (as in the image above) will bring out the detail.
