To speed up the modernization of your passenger car fleet, the DR decided to provide existing two- and three-axle country railway wagons with new superstructures. Starting in 1959, the first known as Rekowagen wagons were in use and soon formed the backbone of passenger traffic of the DR. They were found on all routes, with trains ran on main trains with up to 10 cars.
