Model Kits

Building model kits can be an incredibly relaxing and rewarding hobby - we imagine there are a fair few of you who have built an Airfix Spitfire in your time…

These days, Airfix model kits aren’t the only players in the game, as there is a huge selection of planes, boats, tanks, figures and vehicles from brands such as Revell, and we stock Tamiya model kits too. Most manufacturers clearly label the difficulty levels of their model kits, and we always endeavour to pass this information onto you so you can make the best choice for you.

Plastic model kits typically come boxed with each individual component that needs to be glued together attached to what is called a ‘sprue’. Generally, each piece is made of injection moulded plastic and will require painting - check out our range of modelling tools and paints to complete your build.

All model kits are supplied with detailed instructions and a list of the correct paints to use to achieve the best effect - we stock both Revell paints and Tamiya paints, as well as the Humbrol range (owned by Hornby), which is recommended for use with Airfix model kits. Paints for model kits are generally available as enamels or acrylics, and in tinlets or as sprays. When it comes to the best types of glue for our plastic model kits, we recommend the Deluxe Materials range, with the brand’s Precision Plastic Glue particularly good.
