Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR # 722 Sterling Moss/Denis Jenkinson HO/1:87 plastic model, very detailed design and printing (with Union Jack flag and start number), filigree rims, length: 49mm.
The annual major event of the Mille Miglia in 1955 had a particularly attractive field of participants. Mercedes-Benz had big plans and dispatched an armada of four 300 SLR racing vehicles, which were used for the first time. Well-known top drivers should compete with the toughest competitors such as Ferrari, Maserati and Aston Martin for victory. Half of Italy was on its feet and excited about the national racing event. The cars started from the famous launch pad in Brescia every minute.
The first of the Mercedes team left at 6:58 a.m. with the starting number drawn. 658 (start number = start time) JM Fangio as a solo driver the start and finish point Brescia. As the next SLR driver at 7:01 am, Karl Kling with start no.701 the 1600 km long route under the wheels. Then said goodbye at 7: 4 o'clock the driver team around Hans Herrmann with co-driver Hermann Eger with start no. 704 from Brescia and gave the SLR the spurs.
Last but not least, the young daredevil Stirling Moss catapulized himself into the racing battle with his co-driver Denis Jenkinson at 7:22 a.m. with the starting number 722. Due to his level-headed driving style and his outstanding ability behind the wheel, JM Fangio reached the finish in Brescia as the second winner behind the winner Stirling Moss (also on an SLR).
