WELCOME TO OUR GIANT SELECTION OF N GAUGE TRACK
If you are interested in extending your model railway with more track, buying track for the first time or perhaps buying some track as a gift, then you’ve come to the right place
N Gauge is a very popular gauge to model in the United Kingdom with many major manufacturers supporting it. There is a comprehensive range of locomotives, coaches, wagons, track and accessories to extend with, so the possibilities are almost limitless. There is a slight variation in scale depending on which country you model but everything can run on the same track. This means that some locomotives and rolling stock will look big or small compared to equivalent items in a bigger or smaller scale and some couplings are incompatible (but can be switched over). In simple terms, all the British N Gauge (1:148 scale) rolling stock is totally compatible while the rest of the world enjoys N Gauge in 1:160 scale with their own coupling system. There is one further exception- Japan, where N Gauge is not only the most dominant model railway gauge but is 1:150 scale.
So in short, go British OR Rest of World OR Japanese and stick to it!
The most popular brands for N Gauge Track are Peco (non-ballasted) and KATO Unitrack (pre-ballasted). Other brands are available such as two Fleischmann systems (non-ballasted is in the 22xxx number series and pre-ballasted Profi Track in the 91xx series), Minitrix (in both wooden and concrete sleepered versions) and Atlas. However, once decided, you should really stick with the same track system as our experience tells us that life is made easier by using the same brand.
The first decision you need to make is whether to tick to a sectional track system such as Peco Setrack, KATO Unitrack, Fleischmann, Minitrix or Atlas. Your other option is using flexible track such as Peco Streamline which is extremely well established and widely used.
The advantages of sectional track is that it is plug together with defined radiuses and the geometry all links together (within the same brand) to give you a huge number of possibilities and no annoying gaps! The disadvantage is that there is a more limited range of Turnouts (points) and crossings
Flexible track is exactly that and with Peco Streamline offering a huge and comprehensive selection, you can create almost any model railway you wish. Turnouts are often available in small, medium and large sizes and there are also double slips and catch points available too. There is also a complete finescale system available in this size, with finer profile rail for maximum realism. The disadvantage of flexible track is that it has to be cut to size and much more consideration needs to be given to the tightness of the curves and clearances, so that your locomotives and rolling stock don’t derail.
We are one of the largest suppliers of N Gauge Track in the world and our experienced expert team (who are all modellers themselves) are on hand to guide you with any advice or suggestions you might need. Enhance your modelling by buying your Peco, KATO Unitrack, Fleischmann, Minitrix or Atlas N Gauge Track direct from Gaugemaster – the model shop for BIG imaginations.
