TT Gauge is 1:120 Scale and was historically a popular scale in Eastern Europe.  It has some British prominence as it was a commercially available scale many years ago using the TT (Table Top) name but over time, TT Gauge eventually became obsolete.  This changed in the 2020s, when Hornby took the bold decision to reintroduce TT Gauge to a UK audience, branded ‘TT:120’ with a selection of starter sets, locomotives, coaches, wagons, track and accessories.   Unlike the other scales, there is absolutely no scale discrepancy between British TT Gauge and the offerings from other European manufacturers.  This means that everything is completely compatible, from the couplings fitted to the locomotives and rolling stock through to the sizing of the trains themselves, the buildings and the model figures.

The most popular brands for British Outline TT Gauge Locomotives are Hornby and Heljan,  The most popular brands for European Outline TT Gauge Locomotives are PIKO, Roco and Arnold.

For those of you who operate your model railway traditionally using DC analogue control, there is the biggest choice as this is still regarded as a ‘standard’ locomotive.

For those of you who operate your railway digitally, using DCC control, there are a number of choices available to you.  Items described as DCC Ready are configured for DC (analogue) control but by buying an appropriate DCC decoder separately, you can convert the locomotive to work digitally.  Locomotives described as DCC Sound already have a DCC decoder, speaker and a sound file loaded so you can enjoy realistic sounds straight out of the box.
