Locomotives
Welcome to Our Giant Selection of N Gauge Locomotives
If you are interested in adding to your collection of N Gauge Locomotives, buying one for the first time or perhaps buying one as a gift, then you’ve come to the right place
N Gauge is a very popular gauge to model in the United Kingdom with many major manufacturers supporting it. There is a comprehensive range of locomotives, coaches, wagons, track and accessories to extend with, so the possibilities are almost limitless. There is a slight variation in scale depending on which country you model but everything can run on the same track. This means that some locomotives and rolling stock will look big or small compared to equivalent items in a bigger or smaller scale and some couplings are incompatible (but can be switched over). In simple terms, all the British N Gauge (1:148 scale) rolling stock is totally compatible while the rest of the world enjoys N Gauge in 1:160 scale with their own coupling system. There is one further exception- Japan, where N Gauge is not only the most dominant model railway gauge but is 1:150 scale.
So in short, go British OR Rest of World OR Japanese and stick to it!
The most popular brands for British N Gauge Locomotives are Dapol, KATO, Graham Farish, EFE Rail and Rapido Trains as well as carefully curated items in our Gaugemaster Collection. The most popular brands for European N Gauge Locomotives are Fleischmann, Minitrix, KATO and PIKO. The most popular brands for American N Gauge Locomotives are KATO and Minitrix.
Everyone loves a locomotive and we have a huge selection of Steam Engines, Diesel Locomotives, Electric Locomotives, Multiple Units and even Bi-Mode trains too.
For those of you who operate your model railway traditionally using DC analogue control, there is the biggest choice as this is still regarded as a ‘standard’ locomotive.
For those of you who operate your railway digitally, using DCC control, there are a number of choices available to you. Items described as DCC Ready are configured for DC (analogue) control but by buying an appropriate DCC decoder separately, you can convert the locomotive to work digitally. Locomotives described as DCC Fitted already have a decoder fitted inside the locomotive so are good to go immediately. Locomotives described as DCC Sound already have a DCC decoder, speaker and a sound file loaded so you can enjoy realistic sounds straight out of the box.
We are one of the largest suppliers of N Gauge Locomotives in the world and our experienced expert team (who are all modellers themselves) are on hand to guide you with any advice or suggestions you might need. Enhance your modelling by buying your Dapol, KATO, Graham Farish, Fleischmann, Minitrix, PIKO, EFE Rail, Rapido Trains and Gaugemaster Collection N Gauge Locomotives directly from Gaugemaster – the model shop for BIG imaginations.
