Welcome to Our Giant Selection of HO Gauge Track

If you are interested in extending your model railway with more track, buying track for the first time or perhaps buying some track as a gift, then you’ve come to the right place.

HO Gauge is 1:87 scale and is the most popular gauge to model in nearly every country in the world apart from the United Kingdom (where it is OO Gauge) and Japan (where it is N Gauge)  with nearly all of the major worldwide manufacturers supporting it.  There is a comprehensive range of locomotives, coaches, wagons, track and accessories to extend with, so the possibilities are almost limitless.  You can run OO Gauge locomotives and rolling stock on HO Gauge track but because of the difference in scale, HO Gauge locomotives and rolling stock will look small in comparison to their OO Gauge counterparts.

The most popular brands for HO Gauge Track are Marklin C Track, Marklin K Track, Rocoline, PIKO A Track, KATO Unitrack, Trix C Track, Atlas and Peco.  There is a huge amount of choice from almost every country imaginable.  Once decided on a type of track, you should really stick with the same track system as our experience tells us that life is made easier by using the same brand.

Unlike British OO Gauge, where working with flexible track is a very popular option, Sectional track is king in HO Gauge.  The advantage of sectional track is that it is plug together with defined radii and the geometry all links together (within the same brand) to give you a huge number of possibilities and no annoying gaps!  However, certain brands do offer a flexible track option if that’s an option you really want to pursue.  So the decision you actually need to make is whether to select an unballasted or pre-ballasted track system.

An unballasted track system is exactly that.  It’s just the track.  This means that if you want a really realistic model railway, you will need to ballast the track yourself using glue and ballast.  Although this sounds daunting, ultimately better effects are achieved this way and learning how to do this is incredibly satisfying.  Ask us how!  Unballasted systems include Marklin K Track, PIKO A Track, Roco, Atlas and Peco.

A pre-ballasted track system is where the track is already fitted to a base of cosmetic ballast.  This saves you a lot of work and is ideal for those who enjoy running their trains more than the scenic side of model railways. Pre-ballasted systems include KATO Unitrack, Marklin C Track, Trix C Track, Piko A Track and Atlas.  Please remember Marklin C Track is only for use with model railways powered using AC control.

We are one of the largest suppliers of HO Gauge Track in the world and our experienced expert team (who are all modellers themselves) are on hand to guide you with any advice or suggestions you might need.  Enhance your modelling by buying your Marklin, PIKO, Roco, KATO, Trix, Atlas and Peco HO Gauge Track directly from Gaugemaster – the model shop for BIG imaginations.
