Z Gauge is 1:220 Scale and is the most popular of the very small scales.  You can create huge model railways in a very small space in Z Gauge and it is worth consideration for this reason.

The biggest brand in this scale is Marklin who offer a complete selection depicting the railways of many European countries over the entire history of the railways. Helpfully, Marklin have adopted a 6 “era” or “epoch” system which allows you to easily identify which locomotives ran at given points in railway history.

Locomotives are available as analogue (2 Rail) products as there isn’t the room available yet for DCC operation.  Most of the available locomotives and rolling stock depict the railways of Europe (usually Switzerland, Germany and Austria) and America.  

A large range of accessories such as buildings, figures and scenery are available from the likes of Faller, Noch, Preiser, Viessmann and Vollmer while Japanese company Rokuhan offer a range of pre-ballasted track alongside a smaller selection of locomotives, rolling stock and other accessories.
