O Gauge is 1:43 Scale and was historically a popular scale in the UK as well as in the USA where it is usually 1:40 Scale.  The larger size is more imposing and for that reason, it is easier to handle although you do need a lot more space if your ambition is to build a large layout.  However, there are some spectacular smaller layouts that have been constructed based around small shunting yards or single track terminus stations so this larger scale should be carefully considered as a very viable option.

The most popular brands for O Gauge Track are Peco and Atlas.  There is a huge amount of choice from almost every country imaginable.  Once decided on a type of track, you should really stick with the same track system as our experience tells us that life is made easier by using the same brand.

Peco offer a limited sectional system (Peco Setrack) and a larger flexible selection (Peco Streamline).  Atlas offer sectional systems in both 2 Rail (DC) and 3 Rail (AC) versions  Please remember Atlas AC Track is only for use with model railways powered using AC control so won’t work with conventional DC model railway control.
