Thomas and Friends Thomas the Tank Engine LBSC 70
Thomas the Tank Engine is a fictional steam locomotive and the main character in the British children's series The Railway Series, created by Reverend Wilbert Awdry and his son Christopher. Thomas debuted in the 1946 book Thomas the Tank Engine, where he is introduced as a cheeky, blue 0-6-0T tank engine working on the North Western Railway on the fictional Island of Sodor. His design is based on the LB&SCR E2 class locomotives. The character gained global fame through the television adaptation Thomas & Friends, which began airing in 1984. Thomas has since become a beloved figure in children's entertainment, appearing in books, TV shows, films, and merchandise.
