The day of the sinking of the most famous passenger ship in the world marks its 100th anniversary.
Everyone knows the tragedy of the Titanic, young or old. The elegant steamer was to be used in the prestigious White Line transatlantic service. But already on the maiden voyage to New York, the Titanic collided with an iceberg on April 14, 1912 at around 11:40 pm (on-board time).
The ship grazes the iceberg on the starboard side and sinks into the icy waters of the Atlantic after two hours and forty minutes. Only 712 people survived the disaster.
