Bring the elite raiding forces of the Second World War into your model collection with the Airfix British Commandos A02705V figure set, part of the Vintage Classics range. This 1:32 scale plastic kit recreates British Commando units as they operated during WWII, designed for dioramas and historical military displays.
The set contains 14 plastic figures, representing British Commandos in a variety of action poses. These include troops equipped for raids and reconnaissance missions, reflecting the irregular warfare style used by these specialist units. The kit is a Skill Level 1 release, meaning it is suitable for beginners as well as collectors of classic Airfix figure sets.
At 1:32 scale, the figures are highly detailed compared with typical OO railway scale figures, making them best suited to standalone dioramas or larger historical scenes rather than direct integration with standard model railway layouts.

Historical Background
The British Commandos were formed in June 1940 during the early stages of the Second World War, following the evacuation of Allied forces from Dunkirk. Their creation was driven by Winston Churchill’s call for “specially trained troops of the hunter class” capable of striking German-occupied Europe.
Commandos were organised into small, highly trained units specialising in raids, sabotage, reconnaissance, and hit-and-run operations. They were designed to disrupt enemy infrastructure, gather intelligence, and maintain pressure on occupied coastal regions.
One of their defining characteristics was their use of unconventional tactics, often operating in small groups rather than traditional battlefield formations. Early operations included raids on occupied France and Norway, aimed at testing German defences and gathering experience for larger Allied operations later in the war.
As the war progressed, Commando units played a significant role in major Allied operations, including preparations for the Normandy landings in 1944 (D-Day), where their expertise in amphibious assault and coastal warfare proved essential.
Commandos also contributed to the formation of modern British special forces doctrine, influencing later units such as the Special Air Service (SAS) and other elite military formations worldwide.
