Historical Background

Commissioned in 1940, HMS King George V became the flagship of the Home Fleet under Admiral Sir John Tovey following the loss of HMS Hood. She played a pivotal role in the pursuit and destruction of the German battleship Bismarck in May 1941, helping to secure one of the Royal Navy's most famous victories. Throughout the remainder of the Second World War, HMS King George V served in the Mediterranean, supporting the Allied invasion of Sicily during Operation Husky, before later joining the British Pacific Fleet for operations against Japan. She remains one of the most distinguished British battleships of the war.
