Background

The ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom Gundam appears in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny (2004–2005) as the final upgraded mobile suit piloted by Kira Yamato. It was developed by ZAFT as part of the “Freedom” lineage, combining advanced Phase Shift armour with high-output propulsion and long-range beam weaponry.

Its defining feature is the DRAGOON system (Disconnected Rapid Armament Group Overlook Operation Network), a set of remote-controlled fin-like units that can detach and attack independently, enabling multi-angle beam assaults. This gives the Strike Freedom overwhelming battlefield flexibility compared with earlier Gundam designs.

In the series, it represents the peak of Coordinators’ mobile suit development, symbolising Kira’s role as a highly skilled pilot trying to minimise casualties while maintaining overwhelming defensive and offensive capability.
