The MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos is a Master Grade snap-fit model kit based on the mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. It represents Barbatos in its 4th form configuration, designed for high detail, internal frame construction, and advanced articulation typical of the MG line.

The kit includes a fully developed inner frame system, allowing for a high level of poseability and mechanical detail beneath the armour. Outer armour parts are layered over the frame, exposing structural elements such as piston-like cylinders that reflect the mobile suit’s in-universe mechanical design.

Background

In the Iron-Blooded Orphans timeline (Post Disaster era), the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos is an ancient Gundam frame originally built during the Calamity War, roughly 300 years before the main story.

It is discovered and reactivated by Tekkadan, a mercenary organisation led by Orga Itsuka, with Mikazuki Augus as its primary pilot. The mobile suit is heavily rebuilt and modified over time, resulting in multiple operational “forms” as new parts and weapons are attached.

Unlike many Gundam series, Barbatos does not rely heavily on ranged beam weaponry. Instead, it specialises in close-range combat, using physical weapons such as the mace and sword due to its reliance on a unique Ahab Reactor system and the Post Disaster universe’s lack of standard beam weapon dominance.

As the series progresses, Barbatos evolves through multiple upgrades, eventually becoming variants such as Barbatos Lupus and Lupus Rex, each reflecting changes in battlefield conditions and available technology.
