Description
AKE-Rheingold Coach Set 3 (3) VI
The beginnings of AKE railway tourism from 1988 lay in the implementation of special trips with rail buses and steam locomotive trains in the Eifel. Through a cooperation with DB Historische Verkehre, the travel program was also able to grow nationwide under the motto "Holidays from the start". From 2005, the AKE therefore gradually built up its own fleet of vehicles. With two exceptions, these were TEE carriages that were built between 1962 and 1974 and were also used in the TEE "Rheingold". They were given back their original paintwork in beige/purple with a black-gray skirt, and the interior fittings still reflect the original condition in some cases, depending on the degree of modernization.
Over the years, the fleet grew to over 20 high-quality passenger carriages that make up the historic "AKE-Rheingold". This takes guests on one- or multi-day trips to their destinations in Germany, Denmark, Austria, northern Italy and Switzerland in comfort and with first-class service. Fresh food is cooked in the dining cars, which is why the two WRmz135s in the train are always coupled together on the kitchen side.
In close cooperation with AKE-Eisenbahntouristik, a selection of the different vehicles from the existing fleet is being released this year as a one-off special series. The compartment cars included in the sets represent a representative cross-section of all variants of the AKE Rheingold. Differences in the paintwork and lettering that are hardly noticeable at first glance have been taken into account down to the smallest detail.
With the additional car 62 00 126, the train can be increased to the 13 to 14 cars that are usual for AKE trips.
The observation car was very badly damaged in the flood disaster in the Ahr and Kyll valleys in summer 2021. A fundamental repair was not yet possible, so the ADmh 101 included in the set 62 00 120 largely corresponds to the condition from 2020.
