Developed in the late 1910s by Prussia, the T14 tender locomotive was designed using proven components from the G8.1 and initially served in Berlin’s rail traffic. A total of 497 locomotives were built, many of which found new homes across Europe after the Second World War, including in Poland, Belgium and Austria.

The Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) operated these locomotives until 1960, while the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) continued their use mainly in and around Berlin until 1971. The T14’s robust design and widespread deployment made it a significant presence in European rail history.
