Details

The MHA 'Coalfish' wagons were introduced by Railfreight in the early 1990s, converted from redundant HAA coal hoppers as coal traffic declined. Designed for use in engineering work, MHAs featured a cut-down, open-top steel body ideal for transporting ballast, spoil, and other track materials. They were fitted with air brakes and often painted in engineering sector grey and yellow. Their rugged construction and short length made them well-suited for tight sidings and work trains. MHA wagons served across the UK rail network and continue to be used by Network Rail and contractors for infrastructure maintenance and renewals.
