The private railway company Rail Traction Company (RTC), based in Bolzano, has been operating cross-border freight services for over 20 years. Together with its partner Lokomotion, RTC operates a fleet of five Siemens Class 189 locomotives each, acquired from the leasing company MRCE. These powerful electric locomotives have been in continuous use by both companies, with RTC units featuring striking red zebra stripes and Lokomotion units adorned with blue zebra stripes.
