In 1979, in occasion of World Championship, was for first time presented the Beta Montecarlo, a car studied by Lancia Head Quarters (and particularly by Daniele Audetto) in order to try to conquer the Championship, for many years dominated by the Porsche 935. Engine was brought to 1425 cc to be able to enter the Beta on the class “up to 2 lite” (World Championship is in fact divided into two classes and winner is the Team having got best score, independently from category). At the end of 1979 season the Lancia was first in the class “up to 2 liter“.
