History:

The Rosenbauer Simba 8x8 (often called GFLF Simba 8×8) is an airport crash-tender developed by the Austrian manufacturer Rosenbauer International AG to fight aircraft and airport fires. It is built on a four-axle 8×8 chassis and in full specification weighs up to 45 tonnes.

The Simba 8x8 is powered by a 31.6-litre V8 diesel engine producing up to 1,250 PS (˜ 920 kW), allowing it to accelerate from standstill to 80 km/h in about 25 seconds, with a top speed of 125 km/h — impressive for such a heavy firefighting vehicle.

It carries massive firefighting resources: about 11,600 litres of water plus two 600-litre foam tanks, with additional dry-extinguishing (powder) capacity, and uses powerful monitors (roof-mounted and front-mounted) capable of projecting water or foam over long ranges at high flow rates.

Used by major airport fire services, the Simba 8×8 is designed to reach any point on runways or aprons within minutes, essential for rapid response in aircraft emergencies.
