Details:
Launched in 1968, the Ford Escort Mk1 1300 GT was created to add sporting appeal to Ford’s hugely successful compact family car. Positioned between the standard Escort models and the more powerful 1600 Sport, the 1300 GT combined everyday usability with period performance flair. Power came from Ford’s proven 1298cc Kent Crossflow engine, fitted with a twin-choke Weber carburettor and producing around 70 bhp, giving the lightweight Escort lively acceleration by late-1960s standards.
The 1300 GT was instantly recognisable thanks to its Rostyle wheels, bold side stripes, blacked-out front panel, rev counter and distinctive “strip” speedometer, all of which reflected Ford’s growing motorsport influence during the era. Although never produced in large numbers, the Escort Mk1 1300 GT helped cement the Escort’s sporting reputation and paved the way for later performance variants. Today, it is a highly sought-after classic among collectors and model enthusiasts alike.
