Details

The SJ Da class was a series of Swedish electric locomotives introduced in the 1950s for mixed-traffic duties on the rapidly electrifying network of Statens Järnvägar (SJ). Developed from earlier Swedish electric locomotive designs, the Da combined reliable mechanical construction with modern electrical equipment, enabling it to handle both passenger and freight trains across main lines and secondary routes.

Built in significant numbers, the class became a common sight throughout Sweden, valued for its durability and ease of maintenance. Over time, Da locomotives were gradually displaced from premier passenger services by more powerful types, but many continued in freight and secondary passenger work for decades, with some remaining in service into the late twentieth century.
