Details

The ÖBB Classes 4706, 4734 and 4736 are modern double-deck electric multiple units developed for the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) as part of a programme to increase capacity on busy regional and intercity routes. Built by Stadler Rail and based on the well-known KISS platform, these trains represent the latest generation of high-capacity European multiple units.

Orders for the type were placed in the early 2020s under a framework agreement covering up to 186 trainsets. The regional versions, designated 4734 (four-car) and 4736 (six-car), were intended primarily for commuter and regional services around Vienna, with entry into service planned from the mid-2020s. A higher-speed long-distance variant, classified 4706, was also produced for intercity operations.

These articulated units feature modern electric traction, high acceleration, and seating for several hundred passengers, reflecting the growing demand for efficient high-capacity trains in Central Europe.
