The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A made its first appearance in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, released in 1991, as the successor to the original refitted Constitution-class Enterprise seen in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Commissioned by Starfleet following the loss of the previous Enterprise, the NCC-1701-A was under the command of Captain James T. Kirk and the familiar crew of the USS Enterprise.
