Historical Background

The Triumph TR6 is widely regarded as one of the greatest British sports cars of the 20th century and remains a favourite among classic car enthusiasts worldwide. Introduced in 1968 by Triumph, the TR6 was developed as a modernised successor to the Triumph TR5, featuring a redesigned body by German coachbuilder Karmann while retaining the proven chassis and mechanical components of earlier TR models. With its aggressive styling, long bonnet and traditional open-top roadster design, the TR6 quickly became an icon of classic British motoring.

Powered by a 2.5-litre straight-six engine, the Triumph TR6 delivered strong performance and a distinctive exhaust note that helped establish its sporting reputation. UK-market cars were fitted with Lucas mechanical fuel injection and produced up to 150 bhp in early models, while export versions, particularly for the United States, used carburettors to meet emissions regulations. The TR6 combined lively rear-wheel-drive handling with a comfortable touring character, making it popular with both sports car drivers and long-distance touring enthusiasts.

Production of the Triumph TR6 continued until 1976, with more than 90,000 examples built, the majority exported to North America. Today, the TR6 is celebrated as one of the last traditional British roadsters of its era and remains highly collectable among classic car fans and die-cast model collectors.
