Designed in the 1930s by William Stanier, these LMS suburban coaches were a modernised development of earlier designs, featuring flush-sided, metal-clad bodies. Built in both composite and brake end variants, they offered a more streamlined appearance and remained a familiar sight on suburban and regional services. Remarkably, examples of the type survived in service until the mid-1960s under British Railways.
