Details
Recreate the elegance of early 20th century Great Western Railway (GWR) passenger services with these distinctive corridor coaches, designed for both cross-country and main line operations between major cities. Built between 1914 and 1920, these coaches featured steel body sides without traditional panelling, giving them a cleaner, more modern appearance for the era, while retaining refined detailing such as bolection mouldings around the windows and frosted glass toplights.
Mounted on reliable Churchward 9ft bogies, these coaches were engineered for smooth running and were typically marshalled into fixed formations. A standard set would include left- and right-hand Brake Thirds, one or two Third Class coaches, and left- and right-hand Composite coaches, allowing all corridor windows to be aligned on the same side, a practical and prototypical feature for passenger convenience.
Ideal for modellers of pre-grouping and early GWR eras, these coaches bring authentic period charm and operational realism to any OO gauge model railway layout.
Model Details:
Designed for exceptional realism and smooth operation, these OO gauge (1:76 scale) model railway coaches feature a highly detailed underframe and running gear. The bogies are equipped with diecast frames and incorporate two stamped metal compensation beams, allowing reliable wheel-bearing electrical pickup via stub axles. A robust diecast chassis ensures durability and stability, while two styles of underframe truss rods provide prototypical variation for accurate period modelling.
Operational performance is enhanced with close coupling mechanisms mounted on cams, enabling the coaches to negotiate R2 (438mm radius) curves while maintaining a realistic, close buffer-to-buffer appearance. Each coach is fitted with NEM coupling pockets, making them compatible with magnetic couplings or traditional NEM-standard couplings supplied by the modeller. The wheelsets are designed for OO gauge track (16.5mm), with clearance to accommodate 18.2mm gauge wheels, and feature 26mm pinpoint axles for smooth running. Additional detailing includes sprung metal buffers, further enhancing both realism and functionality.
The coach bodies are expertly produced using separately moulded ABS plastic sides, delivering crisp detail and accurate proportions. Gap-free corridor connections ensure a seamless appearance between vehicles, even on tighter curves. Inside, the coaches feature a fully decorated interior, complete with separately fitted luggage racks in each passenger compartment, adding depth and authenticity to your layout.
Roof detailing is equally impressive, with separately fitted shell ventilators that vary depending on the prototype period being modelled. Fine external details such as metal door and commode handles elevate the realism, while separately supplied destination boards allow modellers to customise their trains for specific routes or services.
Supplied ready to run, all coaches include factory-fitted interior lighting to bring your passenger services to life. For digital layouts, a DCC decoder socket with blanking plug is provided, allowing easy conversion to DCC operation.
Perfect for enthusiasts seeking highly detailed, prototypical passenger rolling stock, these coaches are an ideal addition to any OO gauge model railway layout, combining precision engineering with outstanding visual realism.
