Historical Background

Bolster wagons were widely used on narrow gauge railways wherever long or bulky loads needed to be transported. Timber, rails, steel girders, machinery and telegraph poles were commonly carried on wagons of this type, with the raised bolsters helping to secure loads safely during transit.
