Designed for OO9 narrow gauge layouts, this detailed kit recreates one of the steel-bodied drop-side wagons acquired by the Ffestiniog Railway for engineering and maintenance duties.

The kit features finely moulded plastic body and chassis components with pinpoint metal wheels, accurately capturing the rugged appearance of these practical utility wagons. Ideal for painting, weathering and custom finishing, it makes an excellent addition to permanent way trains, engineering formations and preserved railway layouts, carrying ballast, sleepers, rails and other maintenance materials.

Assembly and painting are required to complete the model. Couplings are not included and should be fitted separately to suit your preferred OO9 standard. Designed for use on OO9 narrow gauge model railway layouts.

Historical Background

To support the growing maintenance needs of its preserved railway, the Ffestiniog Railway acquired fifteen steel-bodied, drop-side wagons from RAF Alrewas in Staffordshire. Originally built by Robert Hudson Ltd, these robust four-wheel wagons were ideally suited to engineering work and were adapted for use on the railway's permanent way trains.

Numbered 83 to 96 and 98, the wagons became a familiar sight transporting ballast, sleepers, rails and other track materials between work sites. Their durable construction and practical drop-side design ensured they remained valuable engineering vehicles, making them a distinctive and well-known part of the Ffestiniog Railway's preservation era.
