Details

The BLS Re 465 is a class of modern Swiss electric locomotives operated by BLS AG and closely related to the SBB Re 460 “Lok 2000” family. Built between 1994 and 1997, 18 Re 465 units were ordered to provide powerful, versatile traction for both passenger and freight services on routes such as the Lötschberg corridor.

Technically based on the Re 460 design, the Re 465 features efficiency improvements and higher power output, with individual axle control (rather than bogie-level control) and other refinements that give it strong performance on Alpine grades. All locomotives are named and originally carried distinctive liveries in BLS colours.

Used extensively on mixed traffic duties, the Re 465 remains a key part of BLS operations and has undergone lifecycle modernisation programmes to extend service life into the 2040s. Its combination of classic Swiss electric styling, strong performance, and operational variety makes it an interesting prototype for modern European model railway layouts.
