P934 Rally Antibes 1982
The 1982 Rallye d’Antibes was a key round of both the French and European rally championships, held between 14–17 October 1982 across the demanding tarmac and mixed-surface stages of southern France. Covering over 1,200 kilometres with more than 500 km of special stages, the event attracted a competitive field during the early Group 4 era of rallying, where rear-wheel-drive performance cars still challenged emerging turbocharged rivals.
At the centre of the action was the iconic Porsche 911 Carrera, a car synonymous with reliability, balance, and endurance rallying. Driven to victory by Bernard Béguin and co-driver Jean-Jacques Lenne, the Porsche demonstrated its enduring competitiveness against newer machinery. Béguin’s win marked another success for the 911 platform, which remained a formidable force on twisty asphalt stages thanks to its rear-engine traction and precise handling characteristics.
The 1982 edition also highlighted Porsche’s continued presence in European rallying during a transitional period. While manufacturers such as Audi were pioneering four-wheel-drive technology, privateer and semi-works Porsche entries continued to secure strong results, particularly in technical rallies like Antibes where driver skill and chassis balance were critical. The third-place finish by another Porsche crew further underlined the model’s strength and consistency in competition.
For slot car enthusiasts and collectors, the 1982 Rallye d’Antibes Porsche 911 represents a golden era of rallying, combining classic rear-wheel-drive dynamics with proven rally pedigree. Its victory in this prestigious event makes it an ideal subject for highly detailed slot car models, appealing to fans of historic rally cars, endurance racing heritage, and authentic motorsport liveries.
