Iconic Series L037
The Lancia Rally 037 is one of the most iconic Group B rally cars of the 1980s, developed by Lancia and introduced in 1982 as a purpose-built rear-wheel-drive competition machine for the FIA World Rally Championship. It was the last two-wheel-drive car to win a World Rally Championship manufacturers’ title, marking the end of an era just before the rise of four-wheel-drive dominance.
Built by Abarth and Lancia as a pure rally weapon, the 037 featured a lightweight tubular spaceframe chassis, composite bodywork, and a mid-mounted supercharged 2.0-litre engine producing strong, immediate power delivery. Unlike its turbocharged rivals, the 037 used a supercharger system, giving it exceptional throttle response and controllability on tight and technical asphalt stages.
The Lancia 037 achieved major success in the early Group B period, most famously securing the 1983 World Rally Championship for Manufacturers, competing against emerging four-wheel-drive rivals such as the Audi Quattro. Its strength lay in agility, balance, and mechanical simplicity, making it especially effective on twisty tarmac rallies where precision mattered more than outright traction.
For slot car enthusiasts and collectors, the Lancia Rally 037 is a true Group B legend. Its distinctive wedge-shaped silhouette, Martini Racing heritage livery, and historic rally success make it a perfect subject for detailed slot car models, ideal for recreating classic 1980s rally stages and high-intensity tarmac racing layouts with authentic motorsport character.
