Historical Background

The Wartburg 353 is one of the most recognisable cars produced in the former East Germany and remains an important classic among collectors of Cold War-era automobiles. Introduced in 1966 by VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach, the Wartburg 353 replaced the earlier Wartburg 312 and remained in production for over two decades, finally ending in 1988. It was built in Eisenach, East Germany, and became a common sight across the Eastern Bloc due to its durability and simple engineering.

Powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder two-stroke engine, the Wartburg 353 was known for its distinctive sound and characteristic exhaust note.
