Historical Background

The Volkswagen Golf III Cabriolet is a distinctive open-top version of the third-generation Golf, combining everyday hatchback practicality with classic convertible styling. Introduced in 1993, the Golf III Cabriolet was not a completely new design but a major update of the earlier Golf Mk1 Cabriolet body, which had remained in production due to its popularity. Volkswagen modernised the model with styling elements from the Golf Mk3 range to keep it aligned with the brand’s contemporary design language.

Built by Karmann in Osnabrück, Germany, the Golf III Cabriolet featured updated front and rear styling, improved safety features and revised interior equipment compared with its predecessor.
