Discover a fascinating chapter in regional aviation history with the Herpa Wings Crossair Embraer E170 PP-XJC (538824). This detailed model represents a unique prototype aircraft that played a key role in the early development of Embraer’s E-Jet family, finished in the distinctive Crossair colour scheme.
This Herpa 538824 Embraer E170 model is a highly detailed 1:500 scale die-cast replica, depicting aircraft PP-XJC, the second E170 prototype.
The model is finished in the classic Crossair red and white livery, applied to the prototype aircraft during early testing and evaluation. Historical Background
The Embraer E170 marked the beginning of the highly successful E-Jet family, developed in response to growing demand for efficient regional jet aircraft in the 70 to 110 seat category.
Originally, Crossair of Switzerland was selected as the launch customer, placing an initial order for 30 aircraft, including both E170 and larger E190 variants. The second E170 prototype, PP-XJC, was specifically painted in Crossair colours for evaluation and promotional purposes during the early 2000s.
However, the aviation landscape changed dramatically following the financial collapse of Swissair and the restructuring of Crossair into Swiss International Air Lines. As a result, the original E-Jet order was cancelled, and the aircraft programme was reoriented toward other global customers.
Despite this, the Embraer E170 went on to become a major success worldwide, forming the foundation of the modern E-Jet family still widely operated today.
