The Ilyushin Il-62 was the first long-range four-engine jet airliner developed in the Soviet Union, marking a major milestone in Soviet civil aviation.

Introduced in the 1960s, the aircraft enabled nonstop intercontinental flights from Moscow to destinations across Africa, Asia, and even North America, a major advancement over earlier turboprop aircraft like the Tupolev Tu-114.

From the 1960s through the 1990s, the Il-62 became the primary long-haul aircraft of Aeroflot, with the airline operating the majority of the 295 aircraft built.

The improved Il-62M variant, introduced in the 1970s, featured upgraded engines and performance, extending the aircraft’s operational life.
