Historical Background
The Tupolev Tu-154 entered service in the late 1960s and became the backbone of medium-range passenger aviation across the Soviet Union and allied countries. Designed for operations from shorter or less-developed airfields, it was known for its rugged construction and strong performance in varied operating conditions.
CSA Czechoslovak Airlines introduced the Tu-154M variant into service in 1988 as part of its modernisation programme, using the type on European and selected Middle Eastern routes from Prague. The aircraft replaced older turboprop models and remained in service until the late 1990s, when Western twin-engine jets became more economical and compliant with tightening noise and emissions regulations. Aircraft OK-TCC “Teplice” was named after the spa town of Teplice and later passed into secondary operators following its retirement from CSA service.
