Historical Background

The Airbus A330 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) is a military conversion of the Airbus A330 airliner, developed to perform aerial refuelling, strategic transport and medical evacuation missions. Entering service in the late 2000s, it has become one of the most capable and widely used tanker aircraft in the world due to its long range, large fuel capacity and multi mission flexibility.

The NATO Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF) is a joint European defence initiative operated from Eindhoven Air Base in the Netherlands. It allows multiple participating nations including Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Czechia to share a common fleet of A330 MRTT aircraft, improving efficiency and interoperability while reducing costs.
