Historical Background

The Boeing 737 MAX 8 is part of Boeing’s next-generation 737 family, developed to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions and enhance range compared to earlier 737 variants. Entering commercial service in the late 2010s, the MAX 8 features advanced CFM LEAP-1B engines, redesigned winglets and improved aerodynamics that significantly lower fuel consumption while maintaining the flexibility of the 737 platform.

Air Canada is one of the major operators of the 737 MAX 8, using the type as part of its ongoing fleet renewal programme to replace older Airbus A320 family aircraft and Boeing 737 NG models. The aircraft is primarily used on domestic Canadian routes and cross-border services to the United States, with some longer missions including transcontinental and select transatlantic operations from eastern Canada. Aircraft C-FSNU is part of this growing fleet, supporting Air Canada’s strategy to modernise its narrow-body operations with more efficient and environmentally advanced aircraft.
