Details

The British Rail Class 802 is a modern high-speed bi-mode multiple-unit passenger train built by Hitachi Rail as part of the Hitachi AT300 family. Entering service in August 2018, the Class 802 was introduced to replace ageing InterCity 125 trains and provide faster, more efficient services across key UK routes. Its bi-mode design allows it to run on electric power where overhead lines are available and switch to diesel engines on non-electrified sections, offering operational flexibility on mixed-traction main lines.

Each Class 802 set typically consists of five or nine carriages and can reach 125 mph in service, making it ideal for express passenger work. Operators include Great Western Railway (branded as Intercity Express Trains), TransPennine Express (Nova 1), and Hull Trains (Paragons), each with distinctive liveries and branding.
